African Mountains

The Drakensburg Mountains divide South Africa from north to south in a breath-taking fashion. Enjoy the contrasting landscapes that South Africa has to offer by driving from the warm Indian Ocean up to heights of 3000m at the top of the escarpment. This trip offers loads of tough driving and dramatic scenery with a variety of overnight stops to show you the immense variety in this one country. You will be met by your guide at Durban International Airport and enjoy the scenic transfer to Tala Private Game Reserve, DBB. Your cars will be waiting and we run you through the skills required for your adventure then enjoy a game drive around the reserve. Have a traditional South African meal and a good nights rest at the luxury Fig Tree Lodge listening to the sounds of the African night bush.

We depart after breakfast for the Drakensberg Mountains to observe the landscape transform from the coastal planes, through the Midlands Meander, where we will stop for lunch, and into the foothills of the Berg. Arrive at the base of Sani pass at 16H00 and check into Sani lodge, DBB cosy accommodation and a roaring fire in the cooler months

Have a hearty mountain breakfast before ascending the hair-raising & infamous Sani pass, escalating to 2600m. We will clear the border formalities and enter Lesotho. Enjoy the views from Sani Top Chalets over a cup of coffee. After the pass we keep climbing into Lesotho and over Black Mountain pass where we descend down through the deep valleys with awesome views before arriving at Molumong, a converted stone trading post. DAY 4
Depart Molumong early for the full days drive through Lesotho, stopping for pack breakfast and lunch and often to enjoy the view and meet the gentle Besotho People or swim in a mountain stream. Arrive at Sehlabethebe Lodge at 16h00. Sundowners on top of Africa. DBB.

DAY 6
Depart Sehlabethebe after early breakfast. Descend Ongeluk Nek pass and enjoy the transforming landscape as we wind our way down to the warm coast. Arrive at Coffee Bay on the coast of the old Transkei homeland at 16h00. Overnight Coffee Bay, DBB.

DAY 8
Depart Coffee Bay and travel north using the lesser used trails hugging the coast. Lunch on the beach where we stop for a swim and to cool off. Arrive at Umzimcaba Lodge at 16h00. Luxury accommodation with a la carte restaurant

DAY 9
Depart after breakfast for the final days drive back to Durban. There are numerous little towns and beaches on the way for shopping and memorabilia. Arrive at The Rob Roy Hotel at 17h00 and have sundowners overlooking The Valley of a Thousand Hills. DBB.

DAY 10
Opportunity to explore the vibrant city of Durban before transferring to Durban International airport for your flight home.
